Bill Dyer has more than thirty years of intellectual property experience, including significant experience as lead trial counsel in patent, trademark, and trade secret cases in U.S. District Courts and before the International Trade Commission. Beyond his litigation expertise, he leads large-scale IP due diligence studies, clearance studies, and freedom-to-operate studies, and has negotiated the sale and licensing of significant IP assets. Widely respected by bench and bar, he is frequently appointed to serve as Special Master in Federal courts for issues including patent claim construction, dispositive motions, and discovery disputes. And as a former in-house IP Counsel for a Fortune 100 company, he brings keen, business-oriented insight into strategic IP risk assessment, risk avoidance, growth, and monetization. Bill is nationally recognized by Chambers and Managing Intellectual Property as a leader in the intellectual property field. Outside the office, he teaches advanced trial advocacy skills as a faculty member of the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law. He is also a decorated combat veteran, and recently retired as a Major General in the U.S. Army Reserve. In his final Army assignments, he commanded nearly 2,000 Army lawyers in the provision of legal services across the globe, served as a senior legal advisor at The Pentagon, and commanded over 8,000 Soldiers in execution of the Army’s Basic Combat Training program.
